TIES THAT BIND A NATION

“With the completion of the transcontinental railroad in 1869, the grueling six month, $1,000 journey from New York to San Francisco became a weeklong journey that cost a mere $70. Tens of thousands of people answered the call and traveled through Omaha’s Union Pacific Station to settle the West."

This text is from  Durham Museum in Omaha.

While the railroads would tie America together via the rail system, as a nation, we continue to experience  vast differences. Racial, religious, and regional differences continue to divide America. Most recently, our country is divided over the outcome of a trial. While the trial is over, and the verdict is in, the debate continues …

We see what happens when  a neighborhood watch goes terribly wrong. The trial revealed problems  we knew existed but  chose to ignore.

Whatever the differences, I offer a few humble suggestions.  Have civil conversations. Listen to others.  Pray. Ask God to give you wisdom on how to respond in love.

“I don’t want to live in a kind of world where we don’t look out for one another. Not just the people who are close to us but anybody who needs a helping hand. I can’t change the way anybody else thinks, or what they choose to do, but I can do my bit. “
Charles de Lint
