Friendship Friday

"In the sweetest of friendship let there be laughter, and the sharing of pleasures.  For in the dew of little things the heart finds its morning is refreshed."

Khalil Gibran

I am convinced that joy is an essential to a long lasting friendship. What is the glue that maintains friendships? Is it a common faith in the Lord? Is it an ability to serve each other? I think it may be a sweet mixture of our faith, compassion, and  honesty... to name oa few.

If you are fortunate to have friends like these two... you are blessed.

God's word states this in Proverbs, "A sweet friendship refreshes the soul."  Proverbs 27:9

... a little wiser

" I constantly see people rise in life who are not the smartest, sometimes not even the most diligent, but they are learning machines.  They go to bed every night a little wiser that they were when they got up and boy does that help, particularly, when you have a long run ahead of you. "

Friendship Friday

"Do you have a strong circle of friends? this question was posed by Elizabeth Bernstein in her Wall Street column dated April 20, 2022.

I have several take away points from this article

  •  We have the capacity to maintain about 15 core relationships
  • We need friends from different areas of our lives, work, neighbors, hobby friends, exercise buddies
  • Friends who can support use in different stages in our lives
  • Support friends who need emotional support during a difficult time.
  • Reach out to to friends who you miss. Rekindle those friendships

"Real friends are the

ones you can count on

no matter what.

The ones who go into

the forest to find you

and bring you home.

And real friends never

have to tell you that

they're your friends."

Thrifty Thursday

"Cheap is not always better. When you want to get a good deal, don't settle for the cheapest thing on the shelf."

Sometimes you actually get what you paid for in products that are not well made or made with cheap materials that will not last.

Be a savvy  consumer.

Terrific Tuesday

Birthday celebrations are filled with so much love and laughter. When we add family, friends, waffles with chocolate chips, hugs,  snow cones, fishing,  chicken noodle soup, cookie cake, time with parents, grandparents and friends it makes a day filled with layers of love and blessings.

Birthday Greetings in the morning.

Linus

Linus is this week's pet.  In the midst of this summer's  heat wave make sure your pets have access to fresh water and are kept in cool quarters.

I love the history of the cartoon character Linus. Did you know that Linus was Charlie Brown's best friend. Linus was described as the voice of reason in the comic street.

Throwback Thursday... way back

Over eighty years ago, this month, my mother attended Vacation Bible School. Vacation Bible Schools have been  an important way for churches to teach students during summer vacation.

I love that she treasured this certificate.  Now, decades later, I will share this picture with her great-granddaughter. I will tell my granddaughter,  your great - great grandma  attended VBS just like you!

Here are the pictures from her certificate. I have to smile, my mother always had to correct people when they misspelled her name.

Thrifty Thursday

 Christmas in July...

  • Before you shop for Christmas gifts ... think about doing  the following instead of shopping:
  • If you know how to knit, sew, crochet, or make jewelry those items  may  make a perfect gift
  • Shop vintage stores and give thought to give a unique gift
  • Gift wrap... consider wrapping your gifts with fabric. Fabric scraps might be sweet way to wrap a gift.

Freedom

 "May we think

of freedom not as

the right of do

as we please, but

as the opportunity

to do what is right."

Peter Marshall

With our freedom comes great responsibilities.  Doing what is right is not always easy,

One of our neighbors quietly put American flags at every home in our community. She placed 100 flags at each mailbox. What a kind gesture. Some holiday offer the opportunity to bring us together.  A small act of kindness is creating a bond between neighbor.

Monday Musings ... grace

 " I do not understand

the mystery of grace,

only that is meets us

where are but

does not leave us

where it found us."

Anne Lamott

... with exceeding joy,

"Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, to the only wise God our Savior, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and forever. Amen

Jude 1:24-25 (KJV)

July is ...

 "July is hollyhocks and hammocks,

 fireworks and vacations,

hot and steamy weather,

cool and refreshing swims,

beach picnics,

and vegetables all out of the garden."

Jean Hersey
