Monday Musings ... time

Have you done a time audit on your schedule? You might be unsettled to see how you spend your time each day. Or you might be encouraged to see that you spend your time very wisely. It might be mixture of both... wise in some areas and silly in others.

After some sober reflection, I know I need to eliminate some mindless television from my life.  Setting daily and weekly goals are my first steps.

"Time is not money. Time is more valuable than money. You can always make more money when you run out of money. You can't get more time when you run out of time. If you want to succeed, value your time."

Friendship Friday

 Everyone needs

a friend that will call

and say, "Get dressed,

we are going on an adventure."

While we may not be able to go on an adventure.

Call a friend... make an appointment to share a ☕ cup of coffee or tea.

Never...

" Never shall I forget that night, the first night in camp, which has turned my life into one long night, seven times curse and seven times sealed. Never shall I forget that smoke. Never shall I forget the little faces of the childcare whose bodies I saw turned into wreaths of smoke beneath a silent blue sky."

Today the United Nations General Assembly designated January 27 the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau as International Holocaust Remembrance Day

A life of faith

"The life of faith is lived one day at a time, and to be lived - not always looked forward to as though the 'real' living were around the next corner. It is today for which we are responsible. God still owns tomorrow."

Missing Beth

Today, marks ten years since  my sister passed. It seems  longer than 3,650 days. I still have the desire to call her.

I  want to touch base and test my reality to see if some of my childhood memories were real or  simply a mirage.

I often I find myself laughing at things we used to do together. We were often partners in crime. Getting into innocent trouble. We shared our love for family, friends, flowers, cooking, good jokes, crafts, and teaching VBS.  Yeah, we had a boatload of fights, tears, and disagreements.  I even I miss those moments

I miss you.

My question... Are you that kind of friend to someone?

Thankful Thursday

"Each day I am thankful for nights that turned into mornings,

friends that turned into family,

dreams that turned into reality,

and likes that turned into love."

Thrifty Thursday

Looking for a way to stretch your dollars? How do you make the most of your finances? Have you have been shopping lately?  You know that inflation has hit a 40 year high. Have you discovered any tips that have served you well?

Last year, I heard of a group that was started in 2013. They had one simple premise: Buy Nothing.  This group started in Bainbridge Island, Washington.  Today, Buy Nothing groups have 4.3 millions members in 44 countries.

Our local group has this on their Facebook page:

Buy Nothing Project Mission and Rules:

Give, receive, lend, share and show gratitude in hyper-local gift economies, where the truth wealth is the local connections between real neighbors.

What do you think of this group? Are you a part of a Buy Nothing?  I like the idea of not buying anything .$💰.

Here is good advice from Warren Buffett.

"Do not save what is left after spending, but spend what is left after saving."

Tasty Tuesday

 National Soup Month

January 2022

"How do we love thee? Let us count the ways - chunky, clear, creamy, low-fat, with a dash of spice or naturally sweet, served hot, sometimes cold. Oh, there are a million ways to enjoy soup! And now there is another reason to do so January is National Soup Month. Perfect isn't it because nothing drives away those chilly winter blues like a hot bowl of your favorite soup. And it's nutritious too! So, go ahead and indulge and get souped-up on soup this month."

Fancy

My friend has a gift for decorating with bling.

This little accent table went from boring brown to shiny silver with bling.

I am on the hunt for a small table that she will do her magic on.

Tasty Tuesday Traditional New Year's Eve Menu

In some  African American homes, a traditional New Year's Menu might consist of traditional foods that would have been passed down from generation to generation. Each of the  menu items are symbolic of  some traditional thought. For example, cabbage is suppose to represent  wealth and financial gain,. While cornbread is said to represent gold. Black eyes peas  represent wealth as they swell while cooking. Including pork in the menu gives thought to moving forward which stems from the fact that pigs root forward while they are forging for food. 😕 While I don't adhere to all of the sayings, I do enjoy the menu. Do you have a traditional New Year's Day Menu?   I have included our menu from New Years' Day.

 Chilled Water

Corn Slaw

Black Eyes Peas

Pork Chops

Greens

Cornbread

Dessert

Banana Pudding

Jerry prepared an excellent Banana Pudding Recipe. It was delicious.

While this dessert was not listed in any of the traditions. This dessert is one of my favorites.

Monday Musings ... snow

 Snow

It's fun to walk in sparkling snow,

And hear my boots go crunch,

I play so hard.

Soon I'm wet and tired.

And ready for hot soup with lunch

... great is your faithfulness

The steadfast love of the LORD never

ceases,

his mercies never come to an end;

they are new every morning;

great is your faithfulness.

... this year ... things in your life

"No matter what you face this year, God will be doing 10,000 things in your life, that you cannot see. Trust Him, Love Him, and they will be good for you." John Piper

God's Word says it this way,

"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." Romans 8:38 (NIV)
