Possessions

"I have held many things in my hands, and I have lost them all; but whatever I have placed in God’s hands, that I still possess."

Thank you notes

My mother loved writing thank you notes.
She stressed the importance of acknowledging  gifts.
Today, she is the little voice in my head that reminds me to remember my manners.
She knew the importance of sharing  words of appreciation.
Kind words can foster a sense of connection to our friends and family.

I love writing thank you notes.

Grateful for my new teapot.

Saying thank you is more than good manners.
It is good spirituality.

Monday Musings ... Peace

Peace Begins at Home

October is Domestic Violence Awareness month. Events are conducted across our nation to bring awareness to the issue of domestic violence.

SISTER’s is my Saturday Book Club. Our group decided to collect books to donate to our local shelter. Earlier this month, I was able to deliver new and gently used children books to the shelter. Children will be able to rest, relax, and read a book in a safe place.

Would you like to help a local Domestic Violence Shelter?  If you live in Lexington, you will have a opportunity to support a local event on Thursday, November 7, 2013 at the Kentucky Theater.

Check out the details here: Luna Fest  At the site, include your zip code to find details about events in your area.

Sing and make music...

 It is in the midst of a singing a song, I realize, I want the words of this hymn  to be my prayer.  The words of  many hymns remind me of the character and nature of God. I love hymns that lift my heart to worship.

For example, I love the words of this hymn, Be Thou My Vision  and  another hymn, Holy, Holy, Holy and a more contempary song, My Soul is Anchored in the Lord.

"... be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Ephesians 5: 18 -20"

October's Party

October’s Party

October gave a party;
The leaves by hundreds came –
The Chestnuts, Oaks, and Maples,
And the leaves of every name.
The sunshine spread a carpet,
And everything was grand,
Miss Weather led the dancing,
Professor Wind the band.

The Chestnuts come in yellow,
The Oaks in crimson dressed;
The lovely Misses Maple
In scarlet looked their best;
All balanced to their partners,
And gaily fluttered by;
The sight was like a rainbow
New fallen from the sky.

Then, in the rustic hollow,
At hide and seek they played,
The party closed at sundown,
And everybody stayed
Professor Wind played louder;
They flew along   the ground;
And then the party ended
In jolly , “hands around”
