I love..love.. love...

I love... love....love these precious people...
I am humbled each afternoon when I teach ESL students. This session, students are from Liberia, Togo, Iraq, Burundi, Mexico, and Bhutan. Could any thing be more precious than these wonderful students? ...other volunteers that help.

The majority of these students who have endured years of life in refugee camps. After living in camps, they have such sweet grateful spirits.

Giving my time for these students is a small sacrifice...

Game Day

Loyal football fans must be celebrating. This is their time of year. Alumni have been waiting patiently all summer for a winning season. The wait is over.

A couple of weeks ago, Alan and Becky our neighbors, graciously invited us to attend a University of Kentucky football game. Jerry accepted the invitation with eager anticipation. For me, the excitement began to build this week.

Cool weather, blue skies, temperatures in the 70's, tailgating, fans dressed in blue... UK fans are ready for the game.

The stadium... thousands of fans in blue!

Tailgating before the game..

Here are some True Blue fans!

Yes, University of Kentucky won. Go Cats! Oh, UK beat the University of Louisville.

Multi Tasking

...multi tasking... is not good for me...

Dama and Gus

Thursday evening, September 3,
we had dinner with the newlyweds, Gus and Dama.

Last December, Jerry and I traveled to Savannah for Gus and Dama's wedding. The church service was at Christ Church. I love weddings, but this was one of my favorite. I remember, sitting in that historic church, seeing their families come into the sanctuary, listening to music, and hearing their vows... it was memorable.

While dinner at Malone's was nice, it was nothing compared to their reception at Lady and Sons restaurant in Savannah. http://www.ladyandsons.com/.

Conversations flowed from work, travel, sports, facebook, and friendships. I am glad that Patty and Mike coordinated the dinner.
I am looking forward to our next visit with Gus and Dama when we travel to their home in Georgia.

Quilters

Mary Ann Pettway and China Pettway, quilters from Gee's Bend were in Lexington at the Carnegie Center on Thursday, September 3,2009. Before their short presentation, they sang a song. To me there is nothing sweeter than the beautiful voices in harmony without any instruments. For a few minutes, we listened to a song. Then, they shared their story.

Book Club

Being a member of a book club has been a lovely way to spend time with friends. Each month, a member volunteers to serve as hostess for the evening. The gatherings are casual... we share a common interest in books, laughter, and a safe place to share our thoughts.

At August's book club " A Thread of Grace" by Mary Doria Russell was our book. The author describes herself as a "Jew by choice and an Italian by heritage". How do I describe myself?....African by heritage and Christian by birth...at age 28,,,
