A few Proverbs ...

"The LORD detests dishonest scales,
but accurate weights find favor with him.

When pride comes, then comes disgrace,
but with humility comes wisdom.

The integrity of the upright guides them.
but the unfaithful are destroyed by their duplicity.

Wealth is worthless in the day of wrath,
but righteousness delivers from death.

The righteousness of the upright delivers them,
but the unfaithful are trapped by their evil desires.

Hopes placed in mortals die with them;
all the promise of their power comes to nothing.

The righteous person is rescued from trouble,
and it falls on the wicked instead.

With their mouths the godless destroy their neighbors,
but through knowledge the righteousness escape.

When the righteous prosper, the city rejoices;
when the wicked perish, there are shouts of joy.

Proverbs 11: 1 - 10

Tasty Tuesday

"Vegetables are a must on a diet.
I suggest carrot cake, zucchini bread, and pumpkin pie."
Jim Davis

Monday Musings ...

"We were made to meditate. God designed us with the capacity to pause and ponder.  He means for us not just to hear him, but to reflect on what he says.

It is a distinctively human trait to stop and consider, to chew on something with the teeth of our minds and hearts to roll some reality around in our thoughts and press it deeply into our feelings to look from different angles and seek to get a better sense of its significance."

The biblical name for this art is meditation, which Don Whitney defines as "deep thinking on the truths and spiritual realities revealed in scripture for the purposes of understanding, application, and prayer."  David Mathis  ... from the blog... desiring God...

It is wonderful to revisit the truth about mediation. Sometimes, my soul is hunger for quiet and mediation.

One hundred and six birthdays

Six years ago, I attended my first birthday party for someone who turned 100. Last Saturday, our church family gathered together to  celebrate Ms. L 's  106 birthday.

Born in 1913, our sister in Christ has lived through wars, a depression, segregation, the passage of the 19th Amendment which gave women the right to vote in 1920, the election of the first African American President... and so many milestone historical events.

At the celebration, she spoke with clarity of her gratitude to her family, friends, church family, and to God for allowing her to celebrate  this birthday.

Our pastor encouraged her, sharing that  God knows her and loves her.

The celebration included songs, tribute speeches,  a liturgical dance, cake and ice cream. It was a fine celebration fitting for a lovely lady who turned 106.

St. Patrick's Day

"Christ be with me, Christ within me,
Christ behind me, Christ before me,
Christ beside me, Christ to win me,
Christ to comfort and restore me,
Christ beneath me,, Christ above me,
Christ in quiet, Christ in danger,
Christ in hearts of all that love me,
Christ in the mouth of friend and stranger."

Friendship Friday

Anne and Kitty
The alchemy of friendship...
When you think of friendship what are the qualities that are most important to you? Have those qualities  changed over the years?  Are there some core values that you think are necessary to have a long lasting and meaningful friendship?

If you combine these qualities in varying amounts, I think they are a lovely combination for true friendship.   Here they are : loyalty, honesty, kindness, trustworthiness, toughness, and some who enjoys having fun.  I think laughter is a must!

Tasty Tuesday

"Today, International House of Pancakes has its 14th annual free pancake giveaway with participating restaurants giving away free short stacks of buttermilk pancakes. Some restaurants will have extended hours until 10 p.m."

I enjoyed my free stack of buttermilk pancakes this morning. If you enjoy pancakes and also appreciate supporting good causes, I trust you will hurry over to your local IHOP.

The International House of Pancake restaurant chain is located in Glendale, California. The corporation uses pancake day as its annual fundraiser to help  children who are battling critical health issues.  What a perfect time to visit your IHOP restaurant and support a worthy cause!

The eggs did not come with the free pancakes.
I slide the butter to the side.

Friendship Friday

International Women's Day is celebrated each year on March 8. This year's theme is #BalanceforBetter.  "The 2019 initiative is aimed at gender equality, greater awareness of discrimination and a celebration of women's achievements."

This initiative is so ambitious!  How do ordinary women work to advance this agenda for other women? Do we take opportunities to encourage women to achieve their educational goals? Do we offer emotional and spiritual support for our friends? Do we take opportunities to provide financial support or budget advice to women? Are there ways we can foster greater awareness of discrimination?

In ordinary and extra-ordinary ways, we can begin the work to first become aware of our global community.  I want to celebrate one woman.. one friend who is making a difference in her service with Cure International.  My friend, Maureen. You may recognize her from previous posts on Friendship Friday. In recognition of her work,  she inspires me.

Currently, she is serving as a nurse volunteer with  Cure International. Please click on the  word Cure to learn more about Cure International. CURE Our Mission Healing the sick and proclaiming the kingdom of God.

Do you have  have friends who encourage you, inspire you, and keep you accountable?
What a blessing to have a friend that speaks the truth in love. It is my prayer you have that kind of friend.

word is flawless

As for God his way is perfect:
The LORD's word is flawless;
he shields all who take refuge in him.
For who is God besides the LORD?
And who is the Rock except our God?
It is God who arms me with strength
 and keeps my way secure.
2 Samuel 22: 31 - 33

Friendship Friday

The bond between mother and daughter is deeper than a friendship. This bond extends beyond friendship and becomes intertwined with admiration and appreciation.

Sometimes when I attempt to find the exact words that describe the depth of love I have for my daughter or son, it is an impossible task.  They are simply gifts from God.

Today, I wish my daughter a HaPpY BiRtHdAy!  Sweet Pea may you enjoy and cherish the lavish love of God.
