denim & diamonds

DENIM and Diamonds is the American Cancer Society’s premier event to raise funds to fund research, education, advocacy, patient support and more to fight a disease that has taken so many lives. Tonight's event in Lexington  included an elegant dinner, late night dancing, a spectacular auction, champagne and diamonds and more.

Across our nation, local branches of the American Cancer Society will host  parties, galas, and balls to benefit their lifesaving work.We will join others to party for a cause.

I did not stress  over what to wear. I am wearing a sparkling beige top, new jeans, and cute dress sandals. My only discomfort are pokes from the sparkles.  My attire is in stark contrast to the some events in NYC. In a recent New York Times article, it mentions  many individuals will spend in excess of $100,000 to prepare for a gala fundraiser.  Of course that is NYC and this in Lexington.  What is important... not the attire, but the money that will be raised to support the work of the American Cancer Society.

What happened tonight? One speech brought tears to my eyes. A mother shared her story of how the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge brought hope to her family. After finally receiving an accurate diagnosis, they refereed her son to the UK Markey Center. Traveling from West Virginia to Lexington, this family is able to stay at the Hope Lodge for no cost.  The American Cancer Society Hope Lodge offers the following:

  • 32 Guest Rooms each with a private bath and television
  • Fully equipped residential kitchen and community dining room
  • Laundry room stocked with all the necessary supplies
  • Family room with ample chairs, sofas, and televisions
  • and the list goes on.

This support service is precious for family members staying in the community while a family member has surgery and undergoes chemo treatments. Supporting families during one of the most difficult times of their lives is important. It was sweet to hear my husband share remarks and accept on award  on behalf of a company's contribution to the work of the American Cancer Society.

Shelia Bayes was wonderful to be one of the supporters of tonight's event.
She donated a diamond necklace
to support the American Cancer Society.
She is posing with the winner.

The band "Nobody'z Bizzness" did an outstanding job.
