World Book Night

April 23 marks the 450 anniversary of Shakespeare’s death. In addition, this day also marks UNESCO’s International Day of the Book.

Tonight is also World Book Night, where free books at distributed at various locations in the United States.  The mission of WBN ... spreading the love of reading person to person.

The honorary chair of World Book Night: US  is Amy Poehler. In promoting this year’s event she said, “ I grew up loving books.  In today’s digital world, it is more important than ever to know how good it feels to have a good book in your hand.  I’m thrilled to be a part of World Book Night. People who read are people who dream, and we connect through the stories we live, and tell and read “

I feel so humbled to be a small part of the local celebration. This evening, the Lexington Chapter of Altrusa participated in World Book Night by distributing free books in Lexington on West Sixth Street near Altursa’s Free Little Library.

If you love books like me… tonight was an exciting evening. Giving away books!

What a fantastic evening!
