Pet of the week, Luna the kitten

Today's pet is sweet kitty named Luna. It has been a long time since a kitten has been pet of the week. Special thanks to my friend Laurie for sharing the picture and text. This is such a lovely story. Thank you Laurie!

"Last spring our beloved orange tabby “Saturn” went to kitty heaven.  I know other people choose to wait a long time before bringing another furry one into their homes, wanting time to ease their sadness.
But for my husband Drew and me, the irrepressible energy and off-the-charts cuteness of a new bright-eyed ball of fur helps our hurting hearts more than anything.  And for us it also honors sweet Saturn’s spirit by giving another little one the love, safety, and comfort of a desperately needed home, as he’d been given after his own amazing rescue story 14 years before.
And so, enter Luna.  A 7-week old snowshoe siamese mix, adopted from our local shelter.  That was eight months ago.  We found her on www.petfinder.com.  She and her littermates were found abandoned.
For those of you unfamiliar with petfinder, it’s a wonderful animal shelter and rescue database.  You can easily indicate what you’re looking for, as broadly or specifically as you wish.  Animals fitting your criteria come up with photo, description, and other info, beginning with those geographically closest.  Page after page after page.  For people wanting a purebred and assuming they need to buy from a breeder, think again.  Purebreds are on petfinder, too – turned into shelters for various reasons or rescued from puppy/kitten mills.  While education has improved adoption, spaying, and neutering rates, shelters still care for an estimated 6-8 million cats and dogs every year, and half of those are euthanized.

Luna now feels she owns the place – until our other cat Skye reminds her he does.  She adores Drew.  He’s her boyfriend.  Her mew is becoming more cat/less kitten-like now, but for Drew she always comes out with the funniest squeak when wanting his attention – nuzzling, snuggling, and love-nips to follow.  With Skye she turns from winsome sweetheart to full-on tomboy, launching into wrestling matches with cocky fearlessness.  Saturn would be so proud."
Luna is gorgeous!
