A Celebration of Freedom ~ Juneteenth

Juneteenth  is the oldest know celebration commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. Why this date?   Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas on June 19, 1865 to inform slaves of their freedom.
This year marks the sesquicentennial of the event. Some communities  will hold  parades, festivals, concerts,  and plays to mark this celebration.
