100 birthday candles

Today we celebrated Ms. Lettie’s 100 birthday.  The afternoon was complete with family, friends, balloons, music, food, and of course a birthday cake. To top it off, Willard Scott sent birthday greetings.

Ms. Lettie shared a few remarks. In her speech, she reflected on her faith, family, and her service to God in the church. While she has never married or had children, Ms. Lettie helped raise her nieces and nephews. For over eighty years, she has been faithful in service and attendance to church.

In addition, she has been a witness to history. When she was seven, the Nineteenth Amendment passed giving women the right to vote. She saw family members serve in wars and conflicts. She saw Jim Crow laws slowly fade away. She welcomed new babies and said so long to other family members. She is a witness to how our congregation has grown. She is now the oldest member in her family and our church family.

Ms. Lettie continues to enjoy remarkable physical and mental health. This afternoon, Ms. Lettie was surrounded by love and family, we thank God for His faithfulness.
