Monday Musings... ( Tuesday edition) 

Walking in a cold warehouse, I'm a little upset. I was hoping for help in selecting books.  As I walk up and down the aisles, I am overwhelmed. So many choices, what will the best choice for the students? Then, I remind myself, think about the students. Changing my attitude, I am having fun.

Hours later, I am waiting in the school office with other volunteers . We are able to donate nearly 100 books to three classrooms. 

Once in the classroom, the students match our excitement.

We are grateful.

A Milestone Celebration

B and D are talking with friends at the restaurant. 

This evening, I attended a milestone  celebration. A special friend is marking his ten-year survival of pancreatic cancer.

I met “B” two years ago in an exercise class at the Y.  At our first meeting, his exuberance was contagious.  He is generous in sharing his exercise and health tips.  He does not waste one bit of his suffering.   

At the restaurant, I joined his wife, children, friends, coworkers,  neighbors, kayak and hiking friends to enjoy food, music, and stories. If you are planning a milestone celebration, pull out all of the stops.  Share the joy!

The evening was held at B and D 's favorite Chinese Restaurant.

Shaping Our Future ...

Commerce Lexington's  2015 Annual Dinner was held this evening. These awards were presented,  Ambassador of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, Public Policy Advocate of the Year, and the Youth Leader of the Year.

 Shaping Our Future was the theme of this event.  Volunteers from across the community are striving to create a better community. 

One volunteer, a cancer survivor, has created a resource for individuals who need assistance while they undergo treatments.  This was one of many stories where volunteers are finding unique ways serve those in need.
