Political Junkie

I am a political junkie.  I simply cannot get enough. Blogs, newspapers, television shows, I like them all... Tonight I will watch the Vice Presidential debates.

I am watching C-Span.   C- span cameras are scanning the room. I see our Governor, Senators, and Representatives. On the bottom of the television screen, I see tweets from reporters. On my computer screen, I have the # vpdebates on the Twitter Trends...
It is beginning... time to finish hooking my rug while I watch the debate.

Lessons

I am taking drum lessons. I listen, I watch, I try...It is challenging. There are six of us in this class. My fingers and hands are working hard to grasp the new techniques.  When we learn something new, we always face a learning curve.

Time to get clean

Yesterday afternoon we noticed our dog had a foul odor. Jackson put the “s” in stink. Since he loves to roll around in the grass, we think he rolled in something pretty bad.  He was so smelly.  L

Jerry was able to make an appointment for him this morning. Now, Jackson is groomed and smells so nice. One whiff and you can tell he is clean.  J

I had to write an email today and come clean as well. I had made a commitment and did not follow through. I had accepted a position of responsibility and was not able to complete the assignment. I was avoiding this person’s phone calls.  This problem would not go away.

I asked for forgiveness… barrier down… relationship repaired.  I love restored relationships.  I also love clean dogs.

I took the time to attend a retreat today.

We call them retreats… another term might be… group therapy.

Jennifer Degler, PhD is a clinical psychologist and life coach was today’s speaker. She counsels adults, youth, and couples at Interfaith Counseling in central Kentucky. In addition, she and Paul Coughlin are authors of the book, No More Christian Nice Girl: When just being nice - instead of good - hurts you, your family, and your friends.  This book is available for purchase online at Amazon. 

What did this retreat look like?   As a group, we did an exercise discovering Biblical examples of bad girls, good girls, and girls who were bad for a season or a reason. We prayed, sang, and took a Nice Girl Self Test.  Our speaker also created CWIVES, a Web site devoted to helping Christian wives understand and enhance their sexuality. (www.cwives.com)

One of the lessons for me, developing skills to resolve conflict.  I like the goal of becoming a strong, confident, and caring woman...becoming God's good woman.

Pet of the week

Ok... technically horses are not pets. I do live in Lexington which is the Horse Capital of the World. 

This week it is all about thoroughbred horses.  Last month, I visited Keeneland to see horses prepared for the annual September Yearling Sale. According to an article written by Janet Patton a  reporter for the Herald Leader, she states,  “If the Kentucky Derby is the most exciting two minutes in racing for the horse owner, then the September Yearling Sale might be the most agonizing. “

She continues, “Years of planning and financial and emotional investment ride on catching the right potential buyer’s eye in a few moments in the auction ring.” I cannot image the stress owners must face as they endure the auction. Each year millions of dollars are invested in purchasing thoroughbreds.  

Last month, I took pictures of the horses around their paddocks. These noble animals must be seen in person to appreciate their beauty. God created such beauty in these creatures. See the white tags on the horse? It is their for number for the auction.

What is your most expensive purchase? Your home? It is hard for me to image
the wealth of individuals who bring planes to transport their horses home.
5 Yearlings were sold for at least $1 million dollars.

Art in Lexington

 Celebrate National Hispanic Month by  visiting  a museum or attending an event in honor of the contributions of Hispanics in North American. National Hispanic Month is celebrated from  September 15 ~ October 15.  This exhibition is on display at the Lyric here in Lexington.
