Roots and Festival has been a pinnacle of regional diversity providing entertainment

This morning, the Roots and Heritage Festival and Sigma Gamma
Rho Sorority, Inc., sponsored the inaugural Heritage Scholarship Writing
Contest with a Heritage Scholarship Breakfast. This event was part of the larger festival.
The theme for this year’s writing contest was “How does knowing your heritage open doors to
the future."
Students were able to use the power of their intellect
and words to illustrate the importance of heritage. As they weaved their personal stories with the
history of slavery and the civil rights movement, they began to create a vision for themselves that honors their past.
