Monday Musings... be ready

I admire people who are ready at a moment's notice. Who are those individuals? This list is not exhaustive; police officers, firemen, EMTs,  surgeons, pilots, military personnel, parents, teachers, bus drivers, pastors...

One never knows what will happen in the future.   One moment, a pastor receives a call that a member of the congregation is in the hospital and needs help.  A teacher will spring into action when a student suddenly collapses in the classroom.  Dinner preparation is going smoothly until there is a kitchen fire. There are endless scenarios where someone needs to be ready.  What about our faith?

If we are people of faith, we need to be ready to share the hope we have in Christ Jesus.  God's Word gives  simple and helpful information.  The challenge, we must be willing to study to be prepared. If we stay ready, we don't have to get ready.

"But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this will gentleness and respect.

1 Peter 3:15 NIV

May

"Oh to have you in May,

To talk with you under the trees,

Dreaming throughout the day,

Drinking the wine - like breeze,

Oh it were sweet to think

That May should be ours again,

Hoping it not, I shrink,

Out of sight of men.

May brings the flowers to bloom,

It bring the greens leaves to a tree,

Ant the fatally sweet perfume,

Of what you once were to me.

Grace

"I'm glad we are saved by grace and not by good works.

Because I don't want to listen to everybody

brag for eternity on how they got there."

DL Moody

"For it is by grace you have been saved,

through faith and this is nor from yourselves

it is a gift of God  not by works, so that no one can boast.

For we are God's handiwork. created in Christ Jesus to do

good works. which God prepared in advance for us to do."

Sunday

I appreciate beginning my Sundays with silence.  I am grateful for  the hymns  that interrupt the silence of the morning. Then,  I savor worship songs that often inspire heartfelt prayers.

Sundays are a wonderful to savor a time to truly rest.

Ash Wednesday

Pope Leo XIV on Lent,

"I would like to invite you to a very practical and frequently unappreciated  form of abstinence; that of refraining from words that offend and hurt our neighbor. Let us begin by disarming our language, avoiding harsh words and rash judgment, refraining from slander and speaking ill of those who are not present and cannot defend themselves. Instead, let us strive to measure our words and cultivate kindness and respect in our families, among our friends, at work, on social media, in political debates, in the media and in Christian communities . In this way, words of hatred will give way to words of hope and peace."

If you want ...

"The great C.S. Lewis, in his classic Mere Christianity, wrote these words: If you want to get warm, you must get near the fire. If you want to get wet, you must get into the water. If you want joy, power, peace, eternal life, you must get close to or even into the thing that has them ... If you want eternal life, that is the life most joyous being in the universe, get close to God, immerse yourself in the water of who God is, and you will grow in  joy."

Reading scriptures and belonging to a Bible study are great ways to get close to God.

Monday Musings ... Happy Epiphany

Yesterday a friend hosted a  Happy Epiphany Open House.  Family, friends, and volunteers were treated to a lovely afternoon as we gathered to visit and engage in some sweet conversations. In addition, we enjoyed delectable treats.

In the context of being a  Christians, Epiphany is marked as recognition of when the Wise Men came to give gifts to the Lord Jesus.  Eastern Orthodox Churches will celebrate the Epiphany on January 6. While, we do not know the exact time the Wise Men were able to worship, the Lord Jesus, we know that is an historical fact.   This event was recorded. in Matthew 2.

... I will do a new thing

Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old.

Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.

Isaiah 43:18-19
