Monday Musings

“The word theatre comes from the Greeks. It means the seeing place. It is the place people come to see the truth about life and the social situation.”
Stella Adler

If we are honest, not everyone who attends a play comes to see the truth. Sometimes we want to escape and be entertained. Each of us may come to the theatre with different motives.

Last Saturday, I attended the theatrical performance of Frank X Walker’s play I Dedicate this Ride: The Making of Isaac Murphy. I think Frank X. Walker’s play is an accurate portrayal of African American life and the thoroughbred racing industry in the years following the Civil War.

Funny, realistic and heartbreaking, I did not see a happy ending. Although Isaac Burns Murphy did not live a long life, he left an impressive legacy.

Breeders Cup Festival and Mt. Brilliant Farm were the sponsors for performances that were held on October 23 and 24, 2015. Visit their website for additional information about the festival events and the farm  Click here Breeders Cup Festival or here Mt.Brilliant Farm
