Politics

Senator Lugar was defeated in yesterday’s Republican primary in Indiana. He has faithfully served the citizens of Indiana for over 34 years. What happened? He lost touch with grassroots of the Republican Party.   His co- sponsorship of the Dream Act and support of the New START treaty, did not garner support from portions of the Republican Party.  While, he did not support President Obama’s Affordable Health Care Legislation, this fact did not persuade citizens of Indiana to give him victory .

While I no longer live in Indiana, I will miss his thoughtful contribution to the national discussion on issues.  Republican or Democrat, we need civil debates about the important issues that face our country. Senator Lugar offered that type of discourse in the debate.  No crazy talk.  Insightful and intelligent, he will be missed.

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to visit with my Aunt Lena for an entire afternoon.  What a sweet visit!
Aunt Lena served Senator Lugar when he was the Mayor of Indianapolis from 1968 - 1976.  She also served Mayor William H. Hudnutt III. Over the years, she has been able to serve her community and make a difference. She continues to be sharp as a tack in discussing family and political issues.
Once a Republican... now a Democrat
