Lamar
and Ronnie Tyler are on a journey to
document positive images of African American marriages. As a young couple, they were frustrated by the
media images and portrayals of African American families. They challenge those negative images by sharing the stories of marriages that thrive and endure in spite of difficulties. “They have created three
documentaries that showcase positive examples of African American marriages and
parenting.”
On Saturday, May 12, I was joined other
residents of Lexington to the premier of Still Standing at the Lyric Theater. I am pleased that we were able to join others in our community to celebrate
this young couple, their vision, and support the Lyric Theater. Lexington
joined the following cities where the film was shown, Dallas, Atlanta, Houston,
D.C. and Chicago.
