Tasty Tuesday

In recent days, we have heard that fast food restaurants are experiencing shortages of ground beef. In addition, some grocery stores  are limiting the packages of meat that patrons may purchase. Have you experienced any dilemmas while you shop for food?

If you bake bread like my cousin in North Carolina, you may have experienced shortages of yeast and flour. While there in no reason to panic. I believe you might be wise to prepare.  Plan, prepare, and do not  procrastinate. While we prepare... experience joy in your daily living. Find simple ways to celebrate life. Savor each moment.  Life is a gift from God. Enjoy this gift.

Last week, my hubby celebrated had a birthday. We celebrated with a delicious dinner and an amazing birthday cake.

One hundred and six birthdays

Six years ago, I attended my first birthday party for someone who turned 100. Last Saturday, our church family gathered together to  celebrate Ms. L 's  106 birthday.

Born in 1913, our sister in Christ has lived through wars, a depression, segregation, the passage of the 19th Amendment which gave women the right to vote in 1920, the election of the first African American President... and so many milestone historical events.

 At the celebration, she spoke with clarity of her gratitude to her family, friends, church family, and to God for allowing her to celebrate  this birthday.

Our pastor encouraged her, sharing that  God knows her and loves her. 

The celebration included songs, tribute speeches,  a liturgical dance, cake and ice cream. It was a fine celebration fitting for a lovely lady who turned 106.

When friends have been married for fifty years, they have to celebrate with a special cake.
This cake was modeled after the cake they had at their wedding reception
fifty years ago.

Altrusa of Lexington participated in Make a Difference Day on October 21, 2016.
Members of this organization visited the Hope Center for Women.
"Make a Difference Day" is one the largest national days of community service.
Celebrated on the Fourth Saturday of October thousands of
volunteers unite in a common mission to improve the lives of others."
Volunteers from Altrusa  offered women thoughts and techniques regarding
journaling.  We hope the women will use the journals as a safe place to express
their hopes, dreams, and steps toward restoration.
