2020 ... is almost over.
Did you know that 2020 was designated by the World Health Organization as the Year of the Nurse and the Midwife
"Nurses and midwives play a vital role in providing health services. These are the people who devote their lives to caring for mothers and children, giving lifesaving immunizations and health advice, looking after older people and generally meeting everyday essential health needs. They are often, the first and only point of care in their communities. The world needs 9 million more nurses and midwives if it is to achieve universal health coverage by 2030."
This year, health care professionals have been on the frontline in providing service in the midst of the Covid-19 Pandemic. All across our communities and country, we are eyewitnesses to their service and dedication. Nurses have been an essential part of the health care. Please take two minutes of your time to view a short video about the Year of the Nurse from the World Health Organization. It will be time well spent. The message is from Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
"When I heard 2020 was going to the "The Year of the Nurse" this is not what I expected..." author unknown.
"LORD, I have heard of your fame;
I stand in awe of your deeds,
LORD, Repeat them in our day, in our time make them known;
in wrath, remember mercy."
Habakkuk 3:1-2 (NIV)
Christmas has become a celebration of the holy and secular. For the faithful, it's singing hymns like O Come All Ye Faithful, Oh Holy Night, and Little Town of Bethlehem. For others, it is time to observe Advent, the celebration of Immanuel, God with us, and the soul stirring joy as we embrace the reality of the truth as written in the scriptures.
To others, songs like Here Comes Santa Claus and Jingle Bells are familiar. We celebrate the opportunity to do good for those who are on the margins of life. We binge watch television movies like those on Hallmark Channel that are sugary sweet and predictable. I wonder, do our entertainment choices reveal our hunger for love and happy endings?
Then, we look at our Christmas trees which display how comfortable we have become in blending the holy and secular on our trees. Our ornaments can be a confusing mix and jumble of messages. For example, at the top of our tree, there is an angel that gracefully looks down on all the trimmings. Angels of varying sizes and shapes are wearing gingham, glitter, fabric, and tinsel. Some angles are made of yarn and others are shaped from plastic molds. Yet... there are so many scriptures in the Old Testament and the New Testament that point to angels.
And so goes the list as switch back and forth from holy to secular to embrace this season of the year.
The wonder of the season is to embrace that the Messiah ... God with us... Immanuel.
After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, "Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him."
When King Herod heard this he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him. When he had called together all the people's chief priest and teachers of the law, he asked them where the Messiah was to be born. " In Bethlehem in Judea," they replied, " for this is what the prophet has written:
" But you, Bethlehem, in the land of
Judah
are by no means least among the
rulers of Judah;
for out of you will come a ruler
who will Shepherd my people
Israel."
Matthew 2: 1 - 6 (NIV)
"Let's face it
friends

Last year, Lisa gave me this Nativity Scene. This lovely gift is a sweet reminder of our friendship and our shared faith in Christ. In addition to our shared faith... we share stories, tips, and so much laughter. Indeed, friends make life more fun.
In this season of Advent, I'm experiencing a deeper appreciation of the layers of truth that Believers embrace in this season. This quote from N.T. Wright beautifully expresses the important of light in dark situations.
"Christmas is God lighting a candle; and you don't light a candle in a room that is already full of sunlight. You light a candle in a room that's so murky that the candle when lit, reveals just how bad things really are."
N.T. Wright
Special thanks to Brittany for graciously welcoming me to a their congregation's study of Advent.
I look forward to our time together "Virtually" next week.
Murphy is a service dog. His owner has MS. In this season of Covid-19, Murphy has been a blessing.
"Nothing makes me smile more that looking into the face of a dog that loves me." Unknown.
If there was a picture of friendship in the dictionary, I would look for Lisa's picture. She is a lovely example of genuine friendship. Funny, wise, caring, thoughtful and generous.
We first met at a dinner in Columbia, Tennessee. Since, then, we have enjoyed dinners in Kansas, Kentucky, Georgia, watching a college basketball game in Kentucky, rehearsal dinners in Georgia, a bridal shower/tea in Kansas and so goes the list ...
How did we meet? We connected as the result of our husband's professional careers.
One of the qualities I most admire in Lisa is her gift of hospitality. She is such a gracious hostess. I wish this picture was able to capture the beauty of this table.
Long after the meal has been served, what I remember most... the conversations we enjoy at the table. Creating a lovely table setting allows the conversation to flow with sweet ease.
Earlier today, my friend Maureen shared her joy: "God's Word and praying friends." 🙏
I love her answer! In the midst of challenges, she inspires me to trust God and suffer well. As she waits to begin nerve treatment on Monday, she is faithfully praying.
In spite of obstacles, I anticipate joy in my daily living. This morning, I listened to hymns, went for walk, and stopped by a local coffee shop. In the afternoon, I was treated to a Zoom call with friends.
I would love to read what is bringing you joy.
"One of the essential paradoxes of Advent: that while we wait for God, we are with God all along, that while we need to be reassured of God's arrival, or the arrival our our homecoming, we are already home. While we wait, we have to trust, to have faith, but it is God's grace that give us that faith. As with all spiritual knowledge, two things are true and equally true, at once. The mind can't grasp paradox; it is the knowledge of the soul."

Earle, Franklin, and Josie are running buddies. They enjoy sniffing each other, eating cheese, chasing each other, wrestling, barking at door bells, taking walks, and snuggling in their dog beds. Earle is the older and more mature of the trio. Franklin was once insecure. He is now settled. Josie is the occasional visitor.
A week ago, Earle and Franklin moved to Nebraska. Josie will once again be relegated to the occasional visitor status.
This trio of friends are rescue dogs. Earle and Franklin were adopted in Nebraska. Josie is a rescue dog from the Lexington Humane Society. Who is who? Earle is black. Franklin is white. Josie is chocolate brown.
"Never worry about the size of your Christmas tree.
In the eyes of a child, they are all 30 feet tall.

What is bringing me joy? Here is my short list: family, friends, Thanksgiving leftovers, music, poetry, books, a fresh snowfall, phone calls, text messages, old sweaters, comfy shoes, Instagram, November vacations, beaches, sandcastles, ocean waves, yogurt, prayers, Zoom Bible Studies in Lexington, Zoom Bible Studies from Nashville, fruit snacks, Peppermint Mocha, FaceTime with family, real newspapers, answers to prayers, a house that is silent, Zoom Book Clubs, Christmas lights, clean clothes, appliance that work, Bible Studies, nighttime prayers, morning prayers, memories of my mom, dad, sister, hope in the midst of darkness, and so goes the list.
What is bringing you joy?
In my six decades of living, God has blessed me with a lovely life. I have a short list of things I want to accomplish or places where I want to travel. Truth be told, I'm okay with staying close to home with family and friends. The place I want to be ... in the center of God's will.
So, when I experience unexpected pleasures it brings me such joy.
Earlier this month, we enjoyed a visit with dear friends in Georgia. As usual, we enjoyed an evening filled with laughter, conversation, a delicious meal, a pre birthday celebration and a suprise. What was the surprise? Champagne for my birthday! A first!
While we are in the middle these difficult times, now more than ever find your people who will support you.
Elizabeth Elliott wrote, "Not many of us are good at being Christians all by ourselves - we're supposed to be a flock or a body. We've got to have help: somebody to study the Bible with, somebody to pray with, and somebody to life us up when we're down."
"Those who live in the shelter of the Most High
will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
This I declare about the LORD:
He alone is my refuge, my place of safety;
he is my God, and I trust him.
For he will reduce you from every trap
and protect you from deadly disease.
He will cover you with his feathers.
He will shelter you his wings.
His faithful promises are your armor and protection.
Do not be afraid of the terrors of the night,
nor the arrow that flies in the day.
Do not dread the disease that stalks in the darkness,
nor the disaster that strikes at midday.
Though a thousand fall at your side.
Though ten thousand are dying around you.
those evils will not touch you.
Just open you eyes,
and see how the wicked are punished.
If you make the LORD your refuge,
if you make the Most High your shelter,
no evil will conquer you;
no plague will come near your home;
For he will order his angels
to protect you whenever you go.
They will hold you up with their hands
so you won't even hurt your foot on a stone.
You will trample upon lines and cobras;
you will crush fierce lions and serpents under your feet!
The LORD says, 'I will rescue those who love me.
I will protect those who love me.
I will protect those who trust in my name.
When they call on me, I will answer;
I will be with them in trouble.
I will rescue and honor them.
I will reward them with a long life
and give them my salvation."
Psalm 91 : 1 -16 ( New Living Translation)
Why shop at thrift stores? Here are a few of my reasons.
1. Save Money ! You will find high-end items for a fraction of the cost.
2. Thrift Stores are often attached to charitable causes. Goodwill and Salvation Army are two such non-profit organizations. "Goodwill works to enhance people's dignity and quality of life by strengthening their communities, eliminating their barriers to opportunity, and helping them reach their full potential through learning and the power of work." The Salvation Army's mission is to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.'
3. To discover new or gently used items.
4. To reduce waste and help the environment ... Careers at thrift stores provide "Green Jobs" These jobs collect and recycle items that would otherwise become waste and potentially add more waste to landfills.
5. For me, I shop for items that I will use seasonally. Today, I shopped at GW Boutique to look for chargers. I purchased six red plate chargers for a mere $3.50. I plan on using them for Christmas, Valentine's Day, and 4th of July.
Gw Boutiques are a part of Goodwill. Early this morning, I was the only person in the store. This is the store where I found the chargers.
"To despair over politics - regardless of which side of the political divide one lands on - as many Christians have done in the current apocalyptic political climate, is to forget that we are but wayfarers in this land.
Choosing hope - whether amid the annihilation of the world or merely a political breakdown - is virtuous."
Karen Swallow Prior
"The LORD reigns, he is robed in majesty;
the LORD is robed in majesty and armed with strength;
indeed, the world is established, firm and secure,
Your throne was established long ago;
you are from all eternity.
The seas have lifted up, LORD,
the seas have lifted up their voice;
the seas have lifted up their pounding waves.
Mighter than the thunder of the great waters,
mighter than the breakers of the sea -
the LORD on high is mighty.
Your statues, LORD, stand firm;
holiness, adorns your house
for endless days. "
Psalm 93
While yesterday was Veteran's Day, this is a wonderful quote from a person I follow on Instagram: "Honor our veterans by freely living today to your fullest potential."
The post continues with this., "Freedom is an extraordinary gift. Just ask our friends in many places around the world. What are you doing with that gift today and everyday?
My father was a veteran as well as of two of my three brothers. In addition, my son-in-law is a veteran. What does living life to the fullest look like to you?

Hope: a feeling of expectation and desire for a certain thing to happen. Hope is the name of this week's pet. She is a rescue greyhound dog from Florida. Hope is perfect name for an animal who was a part of the eight race tracks in Florida. This beautiful dog has been rescued and now lives in the Bluegrass State.💖
According to National Geographic, "The era of greyhound racing in the U.S. is coming to an end."
Florida voters have decided to effectively to ban dog racing by the end of 2020.
Where does your hope rest? God Rescues us... and gives us hope.
"True friends are
never apart
maybe in distance
but never in heart."
Last Sunday, I had a lovely phone visit with a friend. It has been years since we have enjoyed a face to face visit. We are blessed with a deep connection. Time seemed to evaporate as we began to share what God is doing in our lives. It was a joy to see how God continues to be faithful in our lives.
Thanking God for these beautiful flowers from Charlene.
" I believe that a trusting attitude and a patient attitude go hand in hand. You see, when you let go and learn to trust God, it releases joy in your life. And when you trust God, you able to be more patient. Patience is not just about waiting for something ... it's about how you wait, or your attitude while waiting."
Joyce Meyer
"Remember this, keep it in mind,
take it to heart, you rebels.
Remember the former things, those of long ago;
I am God, there is no other;
I am God, and there is none like me.
I make known the end from the beginning,
from ancient times, what is still to come.
I say, "My purpose will stand,
and I will do all that I please."
From the east I summon a bird of prey,
from a far-off land a man to fulfill my purpose.
What I have said, that will I bring about;
what I have planned, that will I do."
Isaiah 46: 8 - 11

Tossing bits of amber
And jade, jewels of year grown old:

In this scary season of life, make self care a priority. A few days ago, I posed this question to my Instagram friends... Caption this...
A dear friend offered this suggestion: Take me away Calgon.
The staff at my doctor's office created this wonderful pumpkin. What do you think? I know, pretty creative!
"Halloween is an opportunity to be really creative." Judy Gold
"An honest answer is a true sign of friendship."
Proverbs 24:26
I absolutely love friends who are willing to have deep conversations. Sometimes it can be a bit jarring when friends go deep in conversations when we are a so accustomed to having frivolous interactions.
Kim posed this question to me, "What are your insecurities about leadership?" Wait Kim, I'm not prepared to talk about this over dinner! Yet, we did. I was able to talk about some uncomfortable fears. The conversation was held in a safe place with friends. Yes, even over soup and salad at Panera.
When we take risks in approaching topics that draw out our feelings, we are rewarded with a level of trust and intimacy.
Next time we meet in person, be willing for me to ask you a gentle but probing question.
In August of this year, Tom Fields-Meyer wrote an article in the Los Angeles Times titled, "Missing the comfort of "my" seat in the synagogue when the whole world is askew". His article resonated with me. He talked about Saturday Shabbat services At the timing of his article, it had been five months since their synagogue had in person services.
For me, it has been seven months, since I was in our church sanctuary. Like the author of the Op-Ed, I too miss my people. I miss sitting in my familiar church pew. I miss listening to worship music in real time. I miss the familiar routines of Sunday morning. As a Christian, I appreciate his Jewish persceptive.
I hope you will take a moment to read his Op-Ed on line. If you miss attending your religious services, I know you enjoy this article.
Until we have church services in person, I will be sitting in the comfort of my home worshiping God and missing my people.
"And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds,
not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing,
but encouraging one another -
and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
Hebrews 10: 24:25
Chai is this week's pet. This adorable puppy is a bundle of sweetness that is always on the move. Chai is a magnet that is drawing our neighbors together as stop and admire this little one.
It was literally impossible to take a good picture of Chai. I hope I was able to capture a second of her sweetness.
"J" and "L" are BBF's. What are BBF? Best, Best, Friends. Since they both have best friends, they had to create a new phrase to describe their friendship. What I admire most about their friendship... is their honesty.
As working professionals, they both live busy lives. I was so happy they took time to visit us this month. They are members of NSBE National Society of Black Engineers. In addition, I think they must be members of SWE.Society of Women Engineers. Yes, you are able to be gorgeous and intelligent.
You need a Best Best Friend like these two. #BBF Don't have one? Well, find someone to be your BBF!
Physical pain was the motivator for me to go to physical therapy. Avoiding reoccurring pain is my motivator to continue with therapy. Learning skills is one of my goals to maintain my strength after pt ends.

I miss sharing lunch with my Cooking Light Friends. For years, we would meet the first Tuesday of the month. Our time together was more than the menu or the food. We shared conversations about our children, marriage, sleep habits, politics, community, shopping, pets, needlepoint, and cooking tips.
Community grows when we a share a meal.
What do you think about the protests in Portland? According to the Associated Press in Portland, Oregon, "Prostesters pulled down the statues of presidents Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln in Portland, Oregon, on Sunday in a declaration of "rage" over the Columbus Day federal holiday."
I am saddened by the protests. While statues may be toppled or removed, we cannot blot out history. Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln are still historical figures. Flawed... yes... human... yes... In their lifetimes, they did make significant contributions.
Pray for the protesters. Pray that God will give them a heart to serve instead of destroying.
"Behold, how good and
pleasant it is
when brothers dwell in unity!
It is like the precious oil on the

running down on the beard,
on the beard of Aaron,
running down on the collar
of his robes!
It is like the dew of Hermon,
which falls of the
mountains of Zion!
For there the LORD has
commanded the blessing.
life forevermore.
Psalm 133 ( English Standard Version)
When Robin was born, I wonder did her parents know she would be a gifted singer? As she grew, I wonder did she show her giftedness at an early age? In the last months of her life, she used her voice to sing praises to God.
A few weeks ago, she sang the song, "His Eye Is On The Sparrow" Even in her weaken condition, her voice was beautiful.
This morning, Robin's spirit left her earthly body. She is now free with her Lord and Savior.
Please pray for her family and friends, especially, her two sons and her daughter. Pray God will comfort them and give them His Peace.
Today is World Smile Day. This day is observed on the first Friday in October. "It is dedicated to the smiley face, which was created by Harvey Ball in 1963." Even in the midst of the current world pandemic, I trust you will find one reason to smile. 😃
While our smiles are covered by masks, I think you can see the smiles in our eyes. Earlier this week, we took time from our "regular" schedules to enjoy lunch outside at a local restaurant.
Hello, October. I guess you plan on bringing cooler temperatures, hot cider, falling leaves, pumpkins, scary moments, blankets, quilts, sweaters, football games, Fall breaks, televised political debates, early voting, mail in ballots, Zoom Worship services, Zoom classes, virtual gatherings, fall plantings, mums, pansies, pumpkin lattes, soups, breads, and
October, may I ask, do you plan on bringing tricks, unexpected events, and some treats? I guess, I will have to simply wait.
As for me, I continue to pray each and every day.
September is slowing evaporating away. In hours, this month will be history. I look at my September calendar in disbelief. How is this possible that the month is almost over. This calendar is a little crooked. Like much of our collective lives. Every day is a little tilted or off.
What about your September days... How did they look? What are the "normal" parts of your life? What brings you joy?
What brings me joy? ... participating in a Nashville Bible Study via Zoom. I became a part of this study in September. I love seeing each person's face and hearing their stories. I am humbled that they have welcomed me as a part of their group.
"If I could give my daughter three things,
it would be to be the confidence to always know her self-worth,
the strength to chase her dreams,
and the ability to know how truly, deeply loved she is."

Our weekly Mah Jonng games have been suspended. We no longer go from home to home to enjoy our weekly games. They have been suspended due to the current pandemic.
What do we do? The weekly games have been replaced by our Zoom video visits. We keep current by sharing our reading lists, family visits, new adventures, and upcoming travel plans. The Mavens share how they are keeping current by playing Mahjong online. As for me, I have not ventured to play on line. I wonder, will I be able to play this year?
What is a Maven? One online dictionary defines maven as an expert or a connoisseur. I consider members of our group, experts. That word does not define me. I know my skills have improved while playing with them. Maybe I am a maven in training. 😙
They are my Mahjong friends. While, we began our time together playing this delightful game our conversations have extended beyond the game. In some ways, these friendships are giving me great joy. I like how it is stated in the scripture from Proverbs 27:9
"Sweet friendships refresh the soul and awaken our hearts with joy,
for good friends are like fragrant incense of God's presence." (The Passion Translation)
Are you experiencing technology fatigue? Since in-person gatherings have dwindled down to a few face-to-face encounters, I wonder how our communities are handling the isolation. I especially wonder about folks who are home alone. Plan telephone visits with your family and friends.
For me, I am ready for a more face time with the people I love and call family and friends.
Since the beginning of September, I have participated in a Zoom Family Reunion, Zoom Bible Study, Zoom Book Club, Zoom Worship Service, Zoom Training, Zoom Debriefing, Zoom Club Meeting, and with more Zoom meeting on the calendar. I am almost Zoom outed.
I know, the benefits far outweigh the negative. We experience face to face communication with no face masks. So, until we meet and hug in person. Keep Zooming.
"Wha'choo talkin 'bout Willis." was the signature phrase that Arnold Jackson spoke in the television show Different Strokes spoken by Gary Coleman.
Well, Willis is this week's pet of the week. He is one year old and full of puppy energy. I recently met Willis owner as we visited over their fence.
I am excited that our neighbor took the first step to introduce herself to us. Sometimes, we never make connections with people who live in our backyards. Do you know all of your neighbors? I think I need to make some goodies.
"Even the smallest acts of service, the simplest acts of kindness, is a way to honor those we lost, a way to reclaim that spirit of unity that followed 9/11. If we learn nothing else from this tragedy, we learn that life is short and there is no time for hate."
President Obama
Unmute me!
For sixty-four years, the Carter Family Reunion has been held during Labor Day Weekend. Since Covid-19 pandemic has impacted every part of our lives, this year's reunion had to be held virtually.
We did not want to miss this year! While we were not in the same city physically, we connected on our phones, computers, and iPads via Zoom! Family from ten different states participated in the Zoom Reunion.
Some things were different, yet some things remained the same ...while we didn't share a meal together, we shared recipes, songs, prayers, and conversations.
One problem, we were challenged to unmute participants . With nearly 100 cousins on line, it was difficult to hear all the competing conversations. So many messages, with this common request, "Unmute me!"
You have searched me, LORD
and you know me.
You know me when I sit and when I rise;
you perceive me my thoughts from afar.
You discern my going out and my lying down;
you are familiar with all my ways.
Before a word is on my tongue
you, LORD, know it completely.
You hem me in behind and before,
and you lay your hand upon me.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me.
too lofty for me to attain.
Psalm 139: 1 -6
Over the past three weeks, have been humbled with pain that makes me bend over and grimace in pain. I so grateful for technology that allows my physician to connect with me. Giving thanks for effective treatment plans. This poem ... spoke to me. It might resonate with you.
"While others run fast, you can just
shuffle with perseverance.
While other impress,
you can simply press on.
While others stop for the dark,
you can run through the dark,
The race is won by those who keep
running through the dark.
You've got to keep running
through the dark
because the Light is rising
within you
The low lying storm cloud
that hangs over you can't
master the light of Christ
that raises you.
Darkness does't
have anything
on light
on hope, on faith.
Sometimes the best
training for the really
big things is just the
everyday things.

" August 26 marks the 100th anniversary of the day on which the 19th amendment gave women across America the right to vote which was adopted by the US Constitution."
This day has been coined as Women's Equality Day. Celebrate! Make sure you are registered to vote. I think a great way to celebrate this anniversary.
"Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good
his love endures forever
Let Israel say
"His love endures forever.
Let the house of Aaron say,
His love endures forever.
Let those who fear the LORD, say
"His love endures forever."
When hard pressed, I cried to the LORD;
he brought me into a spacious place.
The LORD is with me, I will not be afraid.
What can mere mortals do to me?
The LORD is with me, he is my helper.
I look in triumph on my enemies.
It is better to take refuge in the LORD
than to trust in humans.
It is better to take refuge in the LORD
than to trust in princes.

This week's pet is Rupert Billy Ginsberg (RBG). He answers to Billy. According to Tina, his owner, "He is the sweetest and meanest kitty ever!!" Thank you to Tina for sharing pictures of Billy.
Recently Tina and I were were attending a ZOOM Altrusa Club Meeting, I am texting her asking for a picture her kitten. Attending Zoom meetings are interesting. Especially, when someone brings a cute kitty to the scheduled club meeting.
Please look at the link to discover the important work that happens in Altrusa International. Here is the link: https://www.altrusa.org
Check out these cute pictures of Billy.
Did you know that friendships are important to your emotional health as well as your physical health? Yes, there is real science behind friendship. According to neuroscientists and anthropologists, friends are important to our very survival.
In February of 2020, Lydia Denworth published a book titled, FRIENDSHIP: The Evolution, Biology, and the Extraordinary Power of Life's Fundamental Bond. A few excerpts of her book were highlighted in a newspaper article printed in February of 2020.
I appreciate that she addresses some basic issues, "Like what makes a good friendship? " "Why do we become friends with one person and not another?" I really like this question, " How long does it take make a friend?
Quick friendship facts.. friendships improve your body's cardiovascular functioning, impacts how your immune system works, and how you sleep. You might me saying really? How can that be true? Is there real science behind those facts? Well you must read the book and find out for yourself.
I hope you make time to make friendships a priority in your life. It is literally good for you.
Fill in the blank, "Don't waste your _______. What word will you use? Time? Money? Food? Over the past week, I have been experiencing physical pain. Real pain.
When I wake up in the middle of the night, it has been a struggle. Then, I remember this simple phrase. Don't waste your suffering. What lesson is God teaching me in suffering? Think back. What lessons has has God revealed to you in the middle of suffering? Have you considered that suffering is a gift?
"Suffering is a gift. It is hidden in mercy." Rumi
Today, we celebrate our 42nd Wedding Anniversary. A dear friend shared this quote in recognizing her parents 59th anniversary. I think it suits us as well.
"A marriage anniversary is the celebration of love, trust, partnership, tolerance, and tenacity. The order varies for any given year." Unknown
Do you work outside the home? Whether we work at home or in the marketplace, I think there is satisfaction from the outcome of our labor.
I recently joined the ranks of the employed. I applied for this position in 2019. After a series of preliminary steps and background check, I was hired.
After years of not working outside our home, I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoy working, learning new skills, taking assessments, and earning a paycheck.
Then I read this ...
"The best work never was and never will be done for money." John Ruskin
"So here's what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life - your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don't be so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You'll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you. and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.
I'm speaking to you of of the deep gratitude for that God has given me, especially as I have responsibilities in relation to you. Living then, as everyone of you does in pure grace, it's important that you not misinterpret yourselves as people who are bringing this goodness to God. No, God brings it all to you. The only accurate way to understand ourselves is by what God is and by what he does for us, not by what we are and we we do for him."
Romans 12: (1-5) The Message (MSG)
I truly love this portion of scripture from the Message. The book of Romans was written by the Apostle Paul. This epistle is the most complete exposition of the central truths of Christianity.
As many of us are seeking ways to safely occupy our time during the pandemic. Each of us find solace in different ways. Some enjoy music, others escape into reading and others spend time in prayer. I have renewed my love of poetry. Many poets are reflecting on life in this age of uncertainty.
Speaking of poetry..
On most days, I read poetry written by my friend, Christie. She is a gifted poet who writes with clarity regarding issues about life in America. She is the author of the book of poetry titled; Oh, to be in Miss Collier's Class Again!" Those of us who are fortunate call Christie our friend are treated to her poetry on Facebook.
Speaking of poetry ...
Alice Quinn has published an anthology of poetry titled: "Together in a Sudden Strangness: America's Poets respond to the Pandemic." This book was scheduled to be published on June 9. There is one poet's work that is missing from this anthology, my friend Christie.
"Time is free, but it's priceless.
You can't own it, but you can use it.
You can't keep it, but you can spend it.
Once you've lost it you can never get it back."
Harvey MacKay
The familiar saying goes like this... "A picture is worth a thousand words." This picture of one street in our nation's capital captures a moment.
People... no cars... no traffic... no bikes... buses... just people.
Are you able to see the markings of yellow words on the black pavement? Are you familiar when this picture gained national attention? I wonder have the words faded as the traffic has resumed?
Learning curves are real. There is be a part of learning that is very uncomfortable. If we preserve, we will learn from our mistakes and grow to become more confident.
Online training ... can be challenging.
"Real learning comes
from making mistakes.
And mistakes come
from implemation.
And that's how you
retain 90% of
everything you learn."
