Seventy years ago in 1946, the Eden High School Flyers were
the “People’s Choice” to win the High School Basketball state title. The team was ranked fourth in the state prior
to the sectional tourney. “ The Flyers breezed through the sectional winning
over New Palestine, Maxwell, and Fortville.
They saw their bubble burst when the Anderson Indians eliminated them.”*
That defeat was difficult for Eden Flyers. Members of the
team had dreamed of a state title. Stories of this season would be repeated for
countless seasons in the future.
My dad was a member of the Eden High School Team. Most of
that team graduated and would enter college the following year. My dad and three other teammates attended
Anderson College. The Flyers were never able to capture a state title. Anderson High School has yet to win another
state title.

Now fast forward to 2016.
My father’s great grandson is a star player on the Marion High School Basketball
team. This year, the team won the State Title. All season long, we have been
long distance fans. Facebook has been
key in allowing us cheer from hundreds of miles away.
