... a new dream

"You are never to old
to set
another goal
or to dream
a new dream."

Tasty Tuesday

“The table is a meeting place, a gathering ground,, the source of sustenance and nourishment, festivity, safety, and satisfaction. A person cooking is person giving; Even the simplest food is a gift."
Laurie Colwin

This month, our Cooking Light group met at the Wild Thyme for a evening of preparing appetizers.
We are missing five of our members.
Hope to see everyone in 2015!

Monday Musings

Earlier this year, I was a part of a neighborhood Bible Study.  In the midst of our busy lives, our small group embarked on a six-week study, The Best Yes Making Wise Decisions in the Midst of Endless Demands by Lysa Terkeurst.

It was a bit ironic that we were not able to finish the study as a group. J Yes… our lives are full.

Now months later, I am using the book as a devotional to reflect on making wise decisions.  Of the twenty-three books I have read this year, this book is in the top five.  Most importantly, I want to hear from the Lord.

“If we want to hear from the Lord, we must confess that sometimes we walk right past the Lord’s instruction and set ourselves up to miss His direction. If we want His direction for our decisions, the great cravings of our soul must not be only be the big moments of assignment. They must also be the seemingly small instructions in the most ordinary of moments when God points His Spirit finger saying, Go there. And in doing that, we are companions of God with eyes and ears more open, more able, more in tune with Him.”
Lysa Terkeurst

 I want to choose The Best Yes.

Pets of the week, Earle and Franklin

This week, Earle and Franklin are visiting from Omaha. No place in our home is off limits. If there is an empty space on a chair or sofa, I often have to scoot over to allow them to have space. These sweet pets make me smile.

Merry Christmas

Joy to the world! The Lord is come;
Let earth receive her king;
Let every heart prepare him room,
And heaven and nature sing,
And heaven and nature sing,
And heaven, and heaven, nature sing.

Tasty Tuesday

 “One thing that clearly defines one culture and ethnic identify in addition to the arts, religion, language, and music is food. It is one of the most identifiable elements of our Black history and culture. During 1800 and 1900’s, Black residents in Williamson County played a critical role in planting, harvesting, preservation, and preparation of the food and meals that Black and White families ate in the community. “

This quote is from the introduction of this book, Soul Food: A Story to Tell The Art of Southern Cooking

While living in Tennessee, I was a member of committee that produced this cookbook.  We met for hours discussing the project, sharing recipes, and telling stories. It was truly a labor of love. Once the cookbook was published, we discovered that many individuals wanted to the cookbook for the recipes and the stories.  We know that the newspaper article in the Tennessean was part of the book’s success.

As homes across the nation, begin to make ready for their holiday meals, I hope families will share their family stories as well as their recipes.
