Saturday Sacrifices

For years, I was a parent cheering from the sidelines of a soccer field. On most Saturdays, I would spend hours on a soccer field. As our children grew, we would often travel to cheer our teams all across the mid south.  As the soccer season of our lives ended, we rediscovered the beauty of home life.  We began to savor a life without soccer.

As high school ended, we switched gears to begin to travel for college visits. I loved watching college games.  Then, we were able to visits to see our ailing parents. We are always in the midst of changes and different challenges.
Our sacrifices changed…

Today, I sacrificed a bit of sleep to serve in a ministry.  Serving requires a commitment of putting the interests of others ahead of my own.  I am blessed to serve.

Later in the day,  I sat in the audience to listen to city council candidates debate issues our city faces.  Giving up a bit of my Saturday to hear candidates the issues. It was a small sacrifice.

I am so grateful for candidates who make huge sacrifices to run for office.

Pet of the week, Yang

Yang is this week's pet. June's photo of Yang
"What marvelous vitality a kitten has. It is really something very beautiful the way life bubbles over in the little creatures. They rush about, and mew, and spring; dance on their hind legs, embrace everything with their front ones, roll over and over, lie on their backs and kick. They don't know what to do with themselves, they are so full of life." -- Jerome K. Jerome

June is the owner of Yang. I became acquainted with June when she was a student at UK.    June is a lovely young lady who is both intelligent and caring. She has a bright future

true friendship

"One of the most beautiful qualities of true friendship is to understand and  to be understood."
Seneca

I am fortunate to have the gift of true friendships. We share our struggles, our joys, advice, recipes, and a love of tea.

Sometimes ... it is just good to talk to a friend.

Monday Musings ... Mammograms

"Time and health are two precious assets that we don’t recognize and appreciate until they have been depleted."  Denis Waitley

I think when people reach a certain age; we have acquired a deep appreciation of life and health. So …

It is my intention to make the most of every day. Each day, I have two things that are a priority. One is my spiritual life. The second is physical exercise.

So …scheduling regular physicals is important
ü  Annual Physical Exam … complete J
ü  Complete Blood Work
ü  Mammogram
ü  Flu Shot
ü  Dental Check up  … every six months…

Last Tuesday, I had my annual mammogram.  Uncomfortable … but necessary…
First question, “Would you like a heated robe?”
Hmmm, Yes!
Little things like a heated robe can make a physical a bit more comfortable.

Sunday Scripture

“This is what the LORD says –
your Redeemer and Creator:
I am the LORD who made all things.
I alone stretched out the heavens.
Who was with me
when I made the earth?
I expose the false prophets as liars
And make fools of fortunetellers
I cause the wise to give bad advice,
Thus proving them to be fools.
But I carry out the predictions of my prophets!
But I say to Jerusalem,  ‘People will live here again,’
and to the towns of Judah,  ‘You will be rebuilt;’
I will restore all your ruins!
When I speak to the rivers and say,  ‘Dry up!’
they will be dry!
When I say of Cyrus, He is my shepherd.
He will certainly do as I say
He will command, “Rebuild Jerusalem
He will say, “Restore my temple”
Isaiah 44:24-28 ( NLT)
