Common Thread the first sale. A Test Product. |
A tiny idea shared
over three years ago is beginning to bear fruit.
The idea… a place
where refugee woman who are new to the community will meet to learn a craft and sell
their items.
Earlier this year,
a name was created, Common Thread. Next came the vision,
“A group of individuals who meet together to
learn, create, and sale handmade items."
To date, the
women have hand stitched a book bag, weaved a basket, created a pin cushion and
beaded jewelry.
The women have
created these items as the result of dedicated volunteers who have donated their materials, time and talents. The women have displayed their
creativity and commitment.
Members of the
group are creating beautiful pieces of jewelry. One of the
things, I like the most… using recycled buttons to create new jewelry.
What I am learning
again is that learning goes both ways. Each of the women already possess amazing skills. Each woman brings her
resiliency and creativity to each project.
I am excited as the group plans a 'Launch/Market Party to share their crafts to the community. Our goal is to have a launch in 2014.

"The more generous
we are, the joyous we become. The more cooperative we are, the more valuable we
become. The enthusiastic we are, the more productive we become. The more
serving we are, the prosperous we become."
