In the beginning God...

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”
Genesis 1:1

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it.”
John 1:1-6 (NIV)

Mighty Moms

Some moms are everyday heroes who juggle, marriage, career while caring for their children with special needs. Each week they schedule doctor’s appointments, drive to physical therapy sessions, administer daily medicine, and often sit in hospital rooms.

Mighty Moms handle their lives with such grace and courage. This week a small group of women were treated to a special weekend retreat. As a member of a service organization, we were able to provide  special pampering for the moms.  Each of their stories affirms the value and dignity of each life.  I pray that God  will encourage and refresh  these mighty moms.

Pet of the week, Adelaide

“I don’t judge others.

This week's pet of the week is a five year old Yorkshire Terrier.
Not only is she cute, Adelaide is talented.
As you can tell by this pose, she is waiting for instructions.
The name Adelaide means of noble rank.
I don’t hate.
I don’t discriminate.
I don’t care about money.
I don’t hold grudges.
I DO know how to love unconditionally,
and that is all I want in return.
I wait for you everyday.
I am your fur friend."

...in the process of becoming

If our worship and study of God is limited to one day of the week, we will miss the precious gift of a  deep and loving relationship with God. We will miss sweet times of fellowship and guidance. Knowing God is a goal worthy of pursuing.

“Unless we’re very intentional about meditating on these truths [that show God’s love] they slip from out thoughts like misty dreams that evaporate in the morning light. That’s why Luther said we must “take heed then, to embrace … the love and kindness of God … [and to] to daily exercise [our] faith therein, entertain no doubt of God’s love and kindness.  Elyse M. Fitzpatrick.

"A Christian is never in the state of completion but always in the process of becoming."
Martin Luther

Monday Musings ~ Celebrations

It is in the celebrations of life, we take time to recognize special events. When there is an invitation to an event, I want to say, “Yes count me in!”

Last Friday, Lexington’s Carnegie Center had a Birthday Bash to mark  21 years of service to the community.  When I saw the invitation with those vivid colors, it screamed… FuN!
The food was beyond delicious. I was tempted to go for seconds. Nope... I did not go for seconds.
I was so happy to attend the event with two dear friends.
For 21 years, the Carnegie Center has offered  tutoring, classes, and workshops.
