This afternoon, for nearly twenty minutes a group of women between the ages of fifty-five and eighty

danced, twirled, kicked, whooped, clapped to music.  Many of the women have survived, cancer, stroke, heart attacks, arthritis, pain, and other various aliments.

They inspire me!

This organization offers a different approach to literacy.  

I appreciate their programs for incarcerated parents.

The pet of the week is very special. Why do you ask? She lives in Brazil. Special thanks to "T" for sharing this picture of Olivia. Olivia's owner is a student at the University of Kentucky.
Looking at this picture, I would describe Olivia as alert, loyal, and very intelligent.

Monday Musings, Family Reunions

Alex Haley had it correct when he said, “In every conceivable manner; the family is link to our past, bridge to our future.”

For fifty-nine years, the Carter Family Reunion is held during Labor Day weekend. This year the reunion was held in Anderson, Indiana. We gather to swap stories, share family news, and welcome new family members into our circle.  We laugh over sweet tea, dash hot sauce on our fish, cut brownies, slice pies, and lick icing from cakes.  We pour over the same family tree and make connections with cousins from across the United States.  In the background, we hear Gordon playing jazz on his saxophone. Later we may hear him singing.

This year the reunion had a lovely theme, Christmas. Yes, Christmas in August. The hall was decorated with a Christmas tree, twinkling lights, red and green tablecloths, and a Santa.  Really, we had several Jolly St. Nicks. Across the room, they added a few snow people, red bows, and red hats. 

Who can we credit with this year’s theme? Michelle!  What an amazing reunion. It truly was the best one ever!  Thanking God for our family.
