Exercise and Exams

Did Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel really suggest that Americans give up their annual physical exams?
According to his op-ed in the New York Times that is exactly what he is suggesting.  He states, “The annual physical exam is basically worthless.”

Each year, forty-five million Americans have an annual physical exam.  I am one of those individuals. I regularly schedule physical exams. I work to include healthy habits in my daily life.

Are you interested in reading the entire article? I suggest you search in the New York Times Op-Ed for Dr. Emanuel's complete article.

Twitter

On my twitter feed this morning… Malcolm Taylor, a Baltimore city bus driver,  “ I helped assemble brothers up from the community. We converged, we prayed, we sang, we stopped some fights, we stopped some rioting. We just held them by the hand and talked to them, and told them to calm down.”

Praying that God will call and use women and men in Baltimore to be God’s instruments to pray give tangible ways to give help and hope in the city.

Monday Musings

"I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word in reality. This is why right, temporarily defeated is stronger than evil triumphant."

Sunday Scripture

“ That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life - whether you have enough food to eat or enough clothes to wear. For life is more than food, and your body more than clothing. Look at the ravens. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for God feeds them. And you are far more valuable to him than any birds! Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? And if worry can’t accomplish a little thing like that, what the use of worrying over bigger things?

Look at the lilies and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are.  And if God cares so wonderfully for flowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith?

And don’t be concerned about what to eat and what to drink. Don’t worry about what to eat and what to drink. Don’t worry about such things. These things dominated the thoughts of unbelievers all over the world, but your Father already knows you needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and he will give you everything you need. “
Luke 12: 22-31 ( NLT)

Good Foods

Good Foods Coop Annual Meeting
In tonight's meeting room.

Here is a snapshot of tonight's annual meeting. Good report, good  food, and good music. Two important milestones were celebrated, 7,000 owners and a financial milestone of 12 million dollars.

Good Foods Coop was once counter culture organic food movement. Today, individuals can choose from a wider range of organic grocers such as Trader Joe's, Whole Food, Earth Fare, and Sprout to name a few of the new additions.

With more competition, our coop has the challenge to make improvements, reinvest in the coop, and add more affordable basic products. Over the next several months, owners will see more changes and improvements in our coop.

With the election of new board members, we see how Democracy Works.

Do you need 3 things?

Do you have a simple list of needs?  Possibly you are content with the circumstances of your life.  Perhaps you need extra hours in your day. Or you maybe you are like me and need wisdom and discernment in time management and life issues.

Reba McEntire has authored this advice.

While I smile are her quote, I know I don't need a wishbone. But I find eternal truth in memorizing God's word.  As I have meditated and memorized these words, I realize that God has generously provided everything I need. Salvation, peace,  joy, strength, family, friends, and more.
I love that the use of the pronoun us… includes all Believers.

“ His divine power has given us everything needed for life and godliness through the knowledge of him who has called us by his own glory and goodness.”
2 Peter 1:3 (NIV)

A Train Trip and Dinner

“It’s a wonderful time when you sit down around the table for dinner and discuss life. No matter where you are, it gives the semblance of normalcy to my crazy world.”
Melina Kanakaredes.

What could be more wonderful? When you enjoy a meal and discuss life with friends on a train.
