Authority and relevance

The modern world detests authority but worships relevance. Our Christian conviction is that the Bible has both authority and relevance, and that the secret of both is Jesus Christ.

A desire to learn Spanish

My desire to learn Spanish has been rekindled. All afternoon, I listened to conversations laced with Spanish and English. This visit has ignited my desire to learn the language.  When people think of individuals from Nicaragua and Puerto Rico, they may have a certain mental imagine.  Information often dispels misconceptions and stereotypes. Truth  transforms our thinking... in every area of our life.
Priscilla extended an invitation for us to join her Memorial Day family get together. It is wonderful to be with friends who make us feel like family.

Priscilla and Carmen are sisters.
Their parents are from Puerto Rico and Nicaragua.

Visiting Highland Hall

Highland Hall's  Front porch
Highland Hall is this year's  Decorators Showcase in Lexington, Kentucky. The proceeds from this year's Showcase will benefit the Nursing Home Ombudsman Agency of the Bluegrass, Inc. This historic home was built in 1855. Currently the home is owned by Mr. and Mrs. William C. Hurt II. The Showcase will continue until June 10, 2012.  Do you live in the Lexington area? You  have plenty of time to visit the home. If you do not live in Lexington, I am sharing my pictures. If you click on the pictures you will see more detail.

Pet of the week

This week’s pet is Goldie the goldfish. Goldie lives with my friend Brooke.  This is where the story begins to get a bit complicated. Goldie is actually her neighbor’s fish. During a power outage, the neighbor asked Brooke to care for their fish. Brooke had electricity … they did not.  Since then, Goldie has lived happily in Brooke’s aquarium.  I give special thanks to my friend for sharing this picture.   She said, "This is not Goldie's best side." Brooke's picture in at the bottom of the post. She and Salah (our friend) celebrated their birthdays last Sunday.

Time

Part of my daily exercise routine.
“Know the value of time; snatch, seize, and enjoy every moment of it. No idleness, no laziness, no procrastination, never put off till tomorrow what can you can do today.” Lord Chesterfield

My Today’s to do list:
Devotions, planning, exercise, walk the dog, mail invitations, laundry, garden, organize files, write thank you notes, send emails, plan for yard sale, update calendar, go to open house…

What is missing on my list…. Tackling some BIG projects. I have to focus on finishing three major projects.  My daily to do list has to change.

I am crying out God for wisdom.

I love Psalm 90:12 “Teach us to number our days carefully so that we may develop wisdom in our hearts.” (Holman Christian Standard Bible)

How do you make the most of your day?  What are your tips?
House offered 20% discount at their Grand Opening.
Saul Good provided free food and wine.
I passed on the food and wine. It was so crowded.  I could barely take  pictures.

Girly Stuff, Mary Kay, and Shopping

Rachael encouraging   Nieveliz .
When I need encouragement, inspiration, and techniques to improve my Mary Kay business  I know where to go... Unit meetings.  I always leave inspired.  Rachael Bullock has the gift of encouragement.  As a young wife and mother, she is a remarkable Mary Kay Director.

After attending the meeting, Mina and I went shopping. We were on a mission. Finding a dress for an upcoming wedding. Mission accomplished... she found a lovely dress at Stein Mart. Next week, Mina will be a great help at my Girls Night In Party ~ Mary Kay Pampering for friends.

What do you think? Trust me, she looks lovely in the dress!

Humble and Grateful

Saturday Morning  BSF Leader's Fellowship

Tears are words that the heart can’t express.”  When I listen to women share how God’s word has transformed their lives, I am moved to tears.  Last Saturday morning, my face was wet with tears. For most of the morning I was quiet. I was content to listen. Our BSF group has been on an incredible 32-week journey through the book of the Acts of the Apostles.  I love to listen to hear how studying God's word has transformed the lives of women.

I am humble and grateful to be able to serve in BSF.  BSF is one place to serve. There are so many places where individuals can serve. Where?  Habitat for Humanity, Prison Fellowship, Domestic Violence Shelters, Federal Prisons, schools, ... Seek God's call... God will direct.

Tonight was the Share Night for the Lexington, BSF Women’s group.   Laughter and tears were a part of tonight.  God is doing amazing work through His children.   Women are preparing to serve in their churches, in the community, and in short term mission trips. I love how women gave God the glory for His work in their lives.

Pet of the week!

Earle looking out the window in Omaha.
Earle is this week's pet of the week.  This little puppy is 14 pounds of sweetness. Simply adorable. In addition, he is so clever. Earle knows his commands! What commands? Here are a few: sit, stay, free, down, shake, and even jump.

Earle is a wonderful example of unconditional love. Seriously.
The benefits of pet ownership are well documented. They add so much joy to our lives.

Earle is named after the city in Arkansas. His owners... my daughter and son - law.  My daughter took this amazing pictures.
I love this picture!

friends

How would you describe a fun afternoon with friends? Would it include an afternoon of shopping? What about a day of pampering? Maybe it might include lunch and a matinee.
How would I describe a fun afternoon? The answer is tea and conversation.   What do we talk about?  God, prayer, meditating on God’s word, memory, politics, economy, …

Make time for your friends.

Grand Opening of Lyric ... "Still Standing"

Ronnie and Lamar Tyler

Lamar and Ronnie Tyler are on a journey to document positive images of African American marriages.  As a young couple, they were frustrated by the media images and portrayals of African American families.  They challenge those negative images by sharing the stories of marriages that thrive and endure in spite of difficulties.  “They have created three documentaries that showcase positive examples of African American marriages and parenting.”

On Saturday, May 12, I was joined other residents of Lexington to the premier of Still Standing at the Lyric Theater.    I am pleased that we were able to join others in our community  to celebrate this young couple, their vision, and support the Lyric Theater. Lexington joined the following cities where the film was shown, Dallas, Atlanta, Houston, D.C. and Chicago.

Check out more @ their web site  here : Still Standing

Planes, Trains, and Automobiles

Train travel allows you to enjoy the experience of travel.
No fly overs , you have the opportunity to enjoy the view.
Surprise...I was so happy to see a red car in my driveway! Driving from Omaha to Lexington, Jara and Kenley made the trip to surprise me for Mother's Day weekend. I love car trips.

On the other hand, I know that they enjoy traveling by plane.

What about trains?  Today is National Train Day.  I hope to book a short trip for this summer.

I love the dining car!
