Surprise Birthday Party!

On Friday, February 13 we had a surprise birthday party for my sister. Great memories in planning the for the party, the menu, the guest list, sharing the love... just a few pictures...

Elesa her granddaughter helping with the decorations. Dawn, Jennifer, and Renae (her niece and daughter in laws) helped with the details.
I thank God for a wonderful sister... and a chance to celebrate her birthday.

On the door...

Here is the door to the office where I work. Scattered on the surface of the door are some of the following words, tolerance, compassion, acceptance, love, kindness, and respect. At the very top of the door in large letters is the phrase, HATE FREE SPACE. In this office, those words are taken seriously. I work to be a pratical expression of the words displayed.

Inside the office, poster size advice covers one entire wall. After three years in this office, I pay little attention to the the many messages fixed on each of the posters.

On most days the angst of high school is under control. Students hurry to classes, talk to friends, text messages, and run to catch up with friends . For the most part, school goes pretty smoothly most days.

Outside the door..the hall is empty.. students in classes...

Lunch at Tomo's in Lexington

Lunch at Tomo's
On most days, I have a quick lunch by myself. A typical lunch might include: a cup of soup, tea, or left overs from last night’s dinner. I really like is to share a meal with friends. At this stage in my life, I am very intentional about the relationships and friendships I nurture and work to maintain. Tuesday, I enjoyed lunch with friends.

Cooking Light

On the first Tuesday of each month, I meet with friends for lunch. We select a recipe from the recent issue of Cooking Light magazine to prepare and share with the group. The lunch is perfect way to sample several dishes.

In the Physiology of Taste, Anthelme Brittat-Savarin (1755-1836) stated that, “Tell me what you eat, and I will tell you what are you are.” I wonder what our menu says about us…

Our menu:
Hariri (Soup)
Chicken Biryania
Cajun Bean and Rice
Coleslaw
Almond Cranberry Corn Bread
Roasted Banana Bars
Special thanks to Ruthie for organizing this Cooking Light group. I certainly agree with what Geoffrey Neighor said in Northern Exposure, “Good food ends with good talk.”
